ADVOCACY
In 2017, NFADB developed the Policy, Information, and Education (PIE) Committee to share information about legislative activities impacting families with loved ones who are DeafBlind.
The PIE Committee's mission is to provide public support for or make recommendations for particular causes or policies that will benefit the DeafBlind community.
The PIE Committee activities include: (1) development of NFADB's first position papers, (2) hosting family chats focused on family advocacy to build a network of family advocates, (3) organizing family advocacy visits to The Hill to advocate for items from our National Advocacy Agenda.
on the Hill
The PIE Committee leads our national advocacy efforts by organizing an annual trip to Capitol Hill, bringing families, self-advocates, and allies together to elevate the voices of individuals who are DeafBlind. This coordinated effort provides participants with the knowledge, tools, and support needed to effectively engage with legislators and influence policies that directly impact access, equity, services, and quality of life.
Through structured briefings, issue-focused training, and scheduled meetings with members of Congress, participants play a critical role in advancing meaningful legislative change. Whether you are a seasoned advocate or new to policy work, this is a powerful opportunity to share your story, build connections, and drive systemic impact.
